District staff presented a strategic-plan update Aug. 21 that emphasized the board’s multi-year goal of creating a district of distinction and highlighted student and program achievements across athletics, archery, academics and the arts. The presentation noted state qualifiers in track and field and wrestling; multiple archery teams that advanced to national and world tournaments (including individual finishes at national/world events); 26 AP Scholars and additional high AP-achievement tiers; recognition of student work in the Southern Lakes Anthology and Wisconsin multilingual contests; and the district’s 13th consecutive Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation. Staff said honored students and teams will receive certificates after school begins Sept. 2 and that many recognitions will be shared via the district’s social media channels. The presenter described the district’s strategic-plan goal of being “a comprehensive district” that provides a wide range of learning opportunities and community-building programs. Several board members remarked on the breadth of extracurricular programs and their connections to career pathways such as nursing and emergency medical technician training. The presentation was informational; no board action was required.
