The McLean County Land Use and Transportation Committee approved a bridge petition on Sept. 2, 2025 to replace two culverts on a Cropsey Road District location with a single new culvert. County highway staff said the existing installation included one 30-inch culvert and one 24-inch culvert with the smaller pipe set about a foot higher, which impaired hydraulic function and showed signs of rust.
Jerry Stokes, presenting the petition, said the county will remove both culverts and install a single culvert sized to correct the hydraulic issues for the township. Member Fagan moved the petition forward and Member Duffy seconded. The committee voted unanimously to approve the petition; the work will be coordinated with the township as a joint culvert project.
Stokes said the planned work would include removal of the existing pipes and replacement with a single culvert and resurfacing above the culvert (hot-mix patching), not a larger road reconstruction. No construction contract was awarded at the meeting; the petition authorizes the county to proceed through the normal joint project process with the township.
