Committee releases 48-square-foot lease interest so IDOT can install ADA curb pads at Olive Street corner

The McLean County Property Committee approved a request to release the county's lease interest in a 48-square-foot corner parcel so the Illinois Department of Transportation can install Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility upgrades. The motion to put the item on the floor was made by Member Duffy and seconded by Member Tompkins; the committee approved the release by voice vote.

County Administrator Cassie Taylor said the request came through the Illinois Department of Transportation Office of Program Development and that the work would occur on property owned by the McLean County Public Building Commission. Taylor said the county currently leases the 48-square-foot area at the Olive Street crosswalk behind the jail and the state needs the county to release its lease interest so the state can perform the ADA work.

Mr. Rood described the work and location: “It's the corner. There's a crosswalk there. They want to put down those pads with the bumps on them for, you know, say, if you're a blind person using a cane, it's easier to see that there's an intersection there. So it's a 48 square feet area, that we're currently leasing. So through this, we would be giving up our lease to that 48 square feet so that the state could come in and do the work that they want to do.”

The committee recorded the motion and approval in the minutes; no member-by-member roll call was provided in the transcript. Administrator Taylor also reminded the committee that the next Property Committee meeting is Oct. 7 at 5 p.m., and that October budget presentations will include departmental budget questions and presentations.
