County capital‑projects staff updated the Administrative Services Committee on Sept. 3 on the Crystal Lake facility work, lab and corner‑suite renovations, parking and landscaping punch lists, and near‑term mechanical replacements.
Project status and timelines
Staff said the nursing side of the Crystal Lake project (closest to Route 14, including a drive‑through lane) should have furniture and be usable in November and that the overall project target is completion in February, with some landscaping work to be completed in spring. Animal control staff will temporarily operate from renovated nursing‑side space while the animal control lobby receives final work.
Lab and corner suite
A phase‑one conversion of a storeroom into an evidence room is complete and carpet installation is underway; the lab/morgue demolition and mechanical removals are in progress. Staff said the lab project is on a January–February completion timeline but is dependent on arrival of refrigeration equipment.
Punch list and site issues
Staff reported two outstanding punch‑list items: poor quality concrete around the Vietnam War Memorial that the contractor must replace (estimated at roughly four or five concrete squares) and damaged irrigation lines along the site's back and side. Staff said retainage and pay‑application funds are available to cover necessary corrective work.
Planned mechanical replacements
County staff said specifications to replace the Valley High chiller are under review and will return to the county board in November; installation of a temporary trailer chiller is planned for April. A replacement water‑softener system for the jail — described as a routine capital replacement after three decades of service — appeared in the day's resolution package for board consideration.
Ending: Staff said projects are progressing with minor schedule and quality‑control issues to be resolved; no contract awards were made at the committee meeting.
