Jeremy, speaking for the county board, updated the Executive Committee on a set of administrative matters including recycling centers, broadband infrastructure, a finance director reorganization and pending IDOT community project funding.
On recycling, Jeremy said he is working with the City of Dixon to find a municipal lot to host county recycling units now located near the county food pantry; if the city cannot provide a monitored location, the county “may be removing them for a short while until we can find a suitable location that is able to be monitored and secured.” Committee members expressed concern that removing units could lead to illegal dumping in the vacated spots.
Jeremy also said a local ISP has expressed interest in laying fiber infrastructure and that the broadband project the county has worked on for roughly 18 months is showing movement. He told the committee the county would present a reorganization to move the finance director from the treasurer’s office to administrative offices, a change planned since the hire of the current finance director, Reid Mitchell.
Finally, Jeremy said the county applied for IDOT community project funds, including a request for courthouse retaining wall and sidewalk repairs, and is awaiting the agency’s announcement for awards from a $400 million state set‑aside.
Ending: Jeremy said the items would return to the board with proposed actions and that staff will continue coordination with the City of Dixon on recycling unit placement and with the ISP on broadband deployment.
