County staff reported to the Lee County Public Safety Committee that projects under the Strong Communities program are moving forward and that the county received an extension on the program timeline. Jim, Strong Communities program staff, said the City of Dixon finalized five submittals that the county forwarded to Ida and that those submittals have been approved. He said the approved scope for Dixon must fit within funds the county has set aside for the city โ essentially $75,000.
Jim said the City of Amboy submitted its materials and that county staff believe Amboy's submittal was either recently approved or awaiting final approval. He added that the county team is identifying a handful of properties in unincorporated Lee County that could use the Strong Communities funds. County staff also reported they received an amendment to the original agreement that extended the timeline for using the funds by one year; the extension gives the county through November 2026 to utilize the available dollars.
Why it matters: the Strong Communities program funds local property- or project-level work; approvals and timeline extensions determine which projects can access the county-set funds. The committee received the report as information; no formal action was recorded on this item at the public safety meeting.
