County facilities staff reported on Aug. 8 that maintenance work at the courthouse, jail and adjacent buildings is progressing and that several repairs required outside contractors and replacement parts.
Facilities staff said a clogged washroom drain at the D home required a two-day effort; the crew used a camera to locate a plastic bottle and other obstructions. “We finally put a camera down in there, and we found that there was a plastic bottle that was flushed down there too,” the staff member said.
At the courthouse, staff showed photos of brick and flashing repairs around the trial area and said contractors removed disintegrated flashing, neutralized rust, painted metal, installed self-adhering flashing and a stainless-steel drip edge, and will leave weep-hole rope outlets to allow evaporative drainage. A facilities speaker said the rope weep solution has given the best long-term results compared with screened inserts that often plug.
In the jail area, a generator had tripped on high temperature and crews replaced a failed radiator motor; vendor availability accelerated the repair. Staff also reported that panic-button systems in judges’ courtrooms had gone dead; contractors who were on-site for other work reset the systems and left a contact number for future service.
Several projects remain open because parts are scarce: staff reported delays obtaining compressors and other HVAC parts, and said deliveries can take weeks. Staff asked the committee to be patient because vendor lead times have lengthened.
No formal votes were taken on these updates; staff said they will continue to monitor repairs and return with updates as vendor schedules resolve.
