GIS staff report map maintenance, drainage-district calculations and offer county printing support

The county GIS team updated the committee on map maintenance, drainage-district calculations and printing options for large-format maps. "We've been working on the transition to the new staff, and we're supporting them through that process where they know everything is going very smooth with that transition," GIS manager Alan said. Nut graf: GIS staff said they ran analyses to fix small boundary discrepancies on city and county layers, converted drainage-district debasement calculations from Excel to GIS to speed processing and improve accuracy, and said the county printing shop can produce maps up to 3 feet wide or provide PDFs for larger prints and external vendors. Alan said the team found small discrepancies in city boundary layers and sent those results back to county staff for correction. He described converting the drainage-district calculations used for farmland debasements from an Excel workflow into GIS, which he said greatly accelerated the process: "This process was taking, I think, months in Excel, and we're able to do it much, much faster with GIS." He noted one remaining issue where parcels that lie in multiple drainage districts produced slightly off calculations; the team will work with county staff to resolve that detail. When asked about producing a large park map for Catlin Park, Alan said the county print shop can produce prints up to 3 feet wide and will generate a PDF that can be sent to an external print shop for larger-format needs; the GIS team can also estimate material and lamination costs if the committee wants a laminated map for display. The committee placed the GIS report on file and approved payment of the GIS bills.
