County approves application for $603,000 state energy grant for 401 State Street

Columbia County supervisors voted to authorize an application for a $603,000 grant to fund energy-efficiency improvements at the county building at 401 State Street.
The board approved a resolution to apply for funds from the New York State Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant program. The application must be submitted by July 15, county staff told the board; officials said the grant would target building-envelope work such as window replacement, added insulation and new roofing, along with HVAC improvements, building energy management and interior lighting upgrades.
County staff said the board is currently working with Centrica on an energy audit of the building. A supervisor reported the county has also allocated $412,000 in CEC funds toward the project; county staff said they had discussed the plan with NYSERDA, and were told there were no issues with using the building department as part of the application.
The resolution to apply for the grant was moved, seconded and approved by the committee and the full board at the special public works session.
If awarded, the grant would be combined with the previously allocated CEC funds and the outcomes of the Centrica audit to define the final scope of work. The board did not vote on construction contracts or specific contractors at the meeting.
