The Chicopee City Council heard a favorable zoning committee report Sept. 2 that covered several separate items: an electronic-sign violation at the Church of God (993 Chicopee St.), a zone-change approval for 0 Prospect Street and a postponement of a special permit application for flexible parking standards at a Chicopee Street parcel.
Zoning committee members said the Church of God electronic sign previously violated the ordinance because it lacked the required eight-second pause. A committee member said Councilor Wagner, with IT expertise, was able to access the sign and "figure this out," and the committee reported that "apparently, the situation's been rectified." The committee voted to place that report on file.
The council approved a zone change from Business A to Residence A for 0.402 acres at 0 Prospect St. to allow a single-family home, with the planning director and zoning committee noting the lot had been vacant for years. Separately, the committee postponed a special permit application from a developer on Chicopee Street seeking to reduce required parking from 21 spaces to 18. The postponement followed findings the property's FY2025 taxes were in arrears, the lot was unkempt and the applicant was not present; the committee set a Sept. 24 meeting to revisit the application after the taxes and site condition were addressed.
