Council approves $110,000 for dugouts at Rivers Park; structures expected for next season

The City Council approved a $110,000 transfer Sept. 2 to the DPW park special account to buy and install player dugouts at Rivers Park baseball diamond. The funding is a transfer from several DPW parks and recreation salary accounts including MEO labor, temporary labor, lifeguard and supervisor lines.
Park staff said if the appropriation is approved the city will place orders for the prefabricated structures immediately. "There is a bit of a lead time on those, about 10 to 12, weeks. And we will put the project out to bid for the installation, hoping to have these ready to go for the beginning of baseball season next year," the superintendent said. Students, coaches and councilors who spoke at the meeting expressed support for the project.
The council approved the appropriation on roll call; one member was recorded out of chair on the vote. The park department will finish procurement and bring installation bids to the city.
