Chicopee council appropriates $220,200 for Trilby Avenue water-main design

The City Council on Sept. 2 appropriated $220,200 from the water surplus account to fund design work for replacement of water mains on Trilby Avenue and a list of nearby streets. The appropriation covers the design phase so the city can go to bid for construction.
Superintendent Elizabeth Bautista (joining remotely) and the mayor said the work is not part of upcoming sewer-separation phases and cannot wait. “Part of the design phase will be evaluating the road condition and how we can also incorporate, the restoration of the what the extent of restoration could would look like,” Bautista said, adding that parts of the paving work could be funded from water revenue while the remainder could be covered with Chapter 90 funds.
Councilors noted the streets named—Trilby Avenue, Edward Street and Percy Street—are in poor condition and asked that the department evaluate the extent of repaving needed after utility work. The council passed the appropriation on roll call during the mayor's orders.
