License commission approves several one-day alcohol permits for August–September events

At its Aug. 12 meeting, the City of Garner License Commission approved multiple one-day permits for late August and September events, including Moon Hill Brewing’s permit for a memorial at Perry Auditorium, Sanctuary Medicinals’ parking-lot event, and a brief champagne toast at the Gardner Museum’s Sept. 28 exhibit opening.

Moon Hill Brewing: the commission approved a beer-and-wine one-day permit for a celebration of life for former city solicitor John Flick at Perry Auditorium on Aug. 21, 2025; staff clarified that, because the applicant is not a nonprofit, the event must run as beer-and-wine rather than a full-liquor one-day license.

Sanctuary Medicinals: commissioners approved a one-day beer-and-wine permit for a parking-lot party on Aug. 23, 2025, with operating hours listed in the packet; applicants said many of their customers are not alcohol consumers and expected modest attendance; staff indicated they will schedule police details as required.

Gardner Museum: Marian Knoll, representing the Gardner Museum, said the Sept. 28 exhibit opening will include a short champagne toast for a Harrison Cady exhibit and estimated fewer than 50 attendees for the opening reception; the commission approved the one-day permit with the understanding the toast will be brief and no refill service will be provided.

All three permits were approved without recorded roll-call tallies; the commission noted standard serving-area signage and that licenses should be posted at events.
