The Gardner City Council on Sept. 2 confirmed a series of routine election-administration appointments and assignments ahead of the city's preliminary elections.
The council unanimously reappointed Mario Guay (first appointed 2013) to the Board of Registrars for a term expiring Sept. 20, 2028; councilors said state law requires a near-equal party balance on the board, and Guay was described as 1 of two Republican members. The appointments committee voted unanimously to forward the reappointment.
The council also unanimously confirmed a list of police officer assignments to polling locations, which councilors said ensures coverage at polling places and secure escorting of ballots back to City Hall. Councilor Hegland described the item as a standard, technical part of election season.
In a separate confirmation, the council approved the mayor's slate of election officers for 2025-2026; councilors thanked long-serving election officers and said many have worked with the clerk's office for years. These confirmations were described as routine and received unanimous support from the council.
