During the public‑comment period at Tuesday’s Sandy City Council meeting, resident David Brings of 18734 Van Fleet Avenue described repeated problems accessing a preexisting backyard gate because vehicles park in front of the gate in the cul‑de‑sac.

Brings told the council his home includes an established RV pad and a fenced gate to the cul‑de‑sac but no formal driveway approach. He said he has posted “please do not block gate” signs and contacted code enforcement; he said a former code officer told him enforcement was not allowed because the location is not a permitted driveway approach.

Brings asked the council either to change enforcement rules so code enforcement can act when vehicles block preexisting, stationary gates, or to allow a driveway approach permit in cases like his so the city could enforce the no‑parking area. He said repeated blockages have interfered with moving trailers and bringing in materials.

Mayor Walker responded that council does not resolve individual complaints on the spot and that staff will follow up. “Just to be clear, we don't respond to anything like that. … The next meeting is where we'll go ahead and follow up with staff,” Mayor Walker said. Staff indicated they had the resident’s photos and would review options.

The council did not take immediate action; staff will review the matter and provide follow‑up at a later council meeting.
