Council approves contract amendment with Lango Hansen for Meineke Park phase 2 design and construction support

The Sandy City Council voted to authorize an amendment to the existing contract with Lango Hansen Landscape Architects to advance phase 2 of the Meineke Park improvements.

Michelle (city staff) summarized completed phase 1 work and described the phase 2 scope: advance design development to 100 percent for land‑use submission, produce construction drawings and cost estimates, support bidding and permitting, and provide construction observation. Staff said the project timeline calls for bidding in 2025, construction in 2025–2026 and coordination to avoid conflict with signature events such as Mountain Festival and Winterfest.

Staff reported available and proposed funding sources include an earmark of $1 million in dedicated park system development charges (SDCs) in the 2025–27 budget, two pending grant applications, and potential urban renewal funds for the parking lot and adjacent areas. The staff report listed the original contract at $36,900 and presented a phase 2 amendment of $179,400; staff recommended council authorize the city manager to sign the amendment and cited a not‑to‑exceed amended contract total of $219,890.

Councilor Mayton moved to authorize the city manager to execute contract amendment number 1 with Lango Hansen Landscape Architects in the amount of $179,400, producing a contract not to exceed $219,890; Councilor Wilkinson seconded. The council voted in favor and the motion passed.
