Kathleen Walker took the oath of office as mayor at the start of the meeting and was sworn in by the presiding official. Several councilors took individual oaths of office afterward.

Later in the evening the council elected Don Hokanson as council president. Councilor Sheldon nominated Hokanson and Councilor Ramsayer seconded the nomination. The council voted by voice; the ayes were unanimous and Hokanson accepted the position and thanked colleagues.

Councilors and newly sworn officials offered brief remarks of gratitude to families and residents, and several expressed priorities including advancing the cityʼs comprehensive plan, securing funding for infrastructure, and encouraging residents to consider public service.
