Painted Sky Park wins APRA facility award; Dave Butler named Parks Professional of the Year

The commission heard that Painted Sky Park won the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association (APRA) award for outstanding facility in the population 25,000–100,000 category, and that Dave Butler, Park Superintendent, was named APRA Parks Professional of the Year.
Jamie (staff presenter) said Painted Sky Park — developed in partnership with Brookfield Residential in the Blossom Rock community — offers features including a catch‑and‑release fishing lake, a three‑acre adventure playground called Miner’s Run, a dog park, accessible play areas and a range of amenities designed for environmental responsibility. The nomination emphasized reclaimed‑water irrigation, dark‑sky‑compliant lighting and preservation and replanting of more than 200 native trees.
Staff praised Butler’s leadership. Butler accepted the recognition and told the commission, “I couldn't do what I do without the parks team I have.” Staff outlined Butler’s management responsibilities and certifications and noted the department completed more than 15 major projects in the last year.
Commissioners and staff marked both awards as department achievements and congratulated Butler and the project teams. No formal action was required; the segment was a report and recognition of awards.
