The Fairview Park and Recreation Advisory Committee appointed committee member Ben Pointer as vice chair after the previous vice chair resigned.
Chair Bob Goffman explained the vacancy, saying Genevieve had retired and resigned the post. Committee members discussed the vice chair’s principal duty: to run meetings when the chair is absent. At the meeting, Ben Pointer said, “Yeah. I’d be open to that,” when asked whether he would serve as vice chair.
A committee member moved to appoint Pointer to the post and another member seconded the motion. The motion passed by voice vote; members responded “aye” and the chair declared the appointment approved. Committee members said the vice chair would run meetings in the chair’s absence and could later progress into the chair role if desired.
Committee members discussed expectations for taking on vice-chair responsibilities, noting the role includes running meetings and stepping in during the chair’s travel or absence. The committee did not adopt any written changes to bylaws or the committee’s municipal posting rules during the appointment; the appointment was handled by motion and voice vote during the meeting.
