Committee members said the spring shred event will be on May 10 with two volunteer shifts (9:30 a.m.–noon and noon–2:30 p.m.) to support a 10 a.m.–2 p.m. public event; volunteers and staff will stage canopies, banners and a table for handouts. Free Geek will be present for electronics recycling, and the city will handle banner posting and cones for parking control, staff members said.
Organizers said they will request a reserve deputy and coordinate with the district car for morning parking control if needed. Committee members agreed to ask public works to set cones for overflow parking and to coordinate with city staff (named in meeting as Devery/Devri/Anastasia in various references) on a Facebook event that already lists attendees.
For an autumn shred, the committee agreed to aim for one of the first two Saturdays in October (committee members suggested Oct. 4 or Oct. 11); staff will confirm available dates with the city calendar and event coordinator.
Fairview On The Green planning will be prioritized at the next meeting: the committee confirmed the event occurs in July and will dedicate a meeting to programming and vendor outreach in June. Members said prior Fairview On The Green booths have included life‑jacket giveaways (coordinated with marine/waterway safety teams), skin‑cancer outreach and ambulance or 9‑1‑1 information tables; the group plans vendor outreach in early June to reserve booths and request fee waivers from event staff.
The committee agreed to make monthly safety tips a regular public‑communications deliverable, producing short illustrated posts (Canva templates) tied to seasonal themes such as water safety in summer and smoke‑detector/carbon‑monoxide reminders in autumn. Staff offered to coordinate with city communications to publish draft tips on the city’s social media and website accounts.
The group also discussed replacing a previously planned in‑person self‑defense class with alternatives because of liability and waiver concerns. Members identified East County Resolution (described as a mediation/resolution service hosted at Gresham City Hall) as a option to provide de‑escalation and mediation workshops for the public; committee members said they will reach out to verify volunteer availability and potential costs.
Finally, cybersecurity outreach was discussed as a multi‑session series covering scams, email threats, card‑skimmer awareness and other subtopics; committee members suggested recruiting banks, credit unions, the secretary of state's consumer‑protection or the attorney general's office as presenters. Several members recommended collecting sign‑in lists and distributing post‑event notes for attendees.
No formal votes were taken on event scheduling beyond confirming volunteer signups for the May shred; staff will confirm dates and return with details at the next meeting.
