Council awards $391,540 contract to replace ramadas at Superstition Shadows Park

The Apache Junction City Council on Sept. 2 approved a contract with Dave Bang Associates to renovate eight ramadas at Superstition Shadows Park. Park staff said the existing ramada support columns have rusted through and replacement of the metal shells and support structures is recommended rather than piecemeal repairs.
Park Superintendent Dave Butler told the council the work will reuse existing footers and concrete pads where possible but the support columns have deteriorated. The recommended contract value is $372,894.94 with a 5% contingency for a total not to exceed $391,539.69. The contract will be executed under a cooperative purchasing contract (Mojave cooperative) and is budgeted in the FY2025–26 capital plan.
Council approved the award on a roll call vote. Staff said some of the removed roofing material could be salvaged for smaller park repairs or other city uses, though the main structural supports are not reusable for the rodeo grounds due to different design requirements.
Work scheduling and warranty details will be finalized in contract documents; staff said the replacement addresses safety concerns from corroded supports and modernizes park amenities.
