Committee plans Kids' Free Fishing Day: volunteers, equipment and logistics discussed

Members said the city provided chairs, tables and other supplies in prior years but that staff support will be limited this year. One committee member told the group the city previously supplied a utility vehicle (commonly called a gator) but staff and insurance restrictions mean the committee likely cannot rely on city vehicles or nonemployee drivers this year.
Volunteers and anglers: Organizers asked for committee volunteers to form a small working group of about three people to coordinate anglers, volunteers and equipment. The group plans a volunteer registration and an online sign-up form; committee members agreed to circulate the registration link in their networks. The committee discussed recruiting high-school or sports teams for setup and teardown help and using volunteer credit/ community-service incentives.
Equipment and supplies: Wooden Fish (an organizing partner) and other fishing organizations were reported to be assisting with anglers and gear. Organizers said they will supply only two rods per platform and encourage participants to bring their own equipment. Committee members discussed supplying replacement hooks, line and bait; the meeting record does not specify a firm dollar amount for those costs.
Outreach and media: The event organizer said a local TV station (Fox 12) and local radio mentions may publicize the event; committee members said such coverage could increase volunteer and angler participation.
Next steps and assignments: The committee asked staff and members to (1) create an online volunteer and angler registration, (2) form a three-person working group to coordinate volunteers and anglers, and (3) contact Reynolds School District (Salish Elementary) about student volunteers and liability information.
