Council renames road to Officer Fazio Drive by unanimous consent

The Apache Junction City Council unanimously approved two consent-agenda items on Sept. 2 to replat portions of a subdivision and rename a roadway from Davis Drive to Officer Fazio Drive, honoring the late Officer Gabriel Fazio. Council action was part of consent items 4 and 5 and passed without opposition.
Council members said the change followed outreach from a local developer, Dr. Horton, who offered to assist after the June incident involving Officer Fazio. City staff explained the replat process is required to effect an official street-name change. Planning and development staff said the amendment will update the official plat and street name records to reflect Officer Fazio’s name.
Council member Cross moved approval of the consent items; the motion carried unanimously on a recorded roll call. No public comment was offered during the consent vote. The replat and renaming will be recorded with the city’s planning and zoning division to make the change official in city records and maps.
