Police said the 11 vehicles were older-model cars that often lacked electronic anti-theft features; detectives had no immediate link among addresses for suspects and no arrests were reported in those theft cases at the time of the presentation. The department characterized the spike as likely driven by one or a small group of offenders rather than a broader regional trend.
On the officer assault, a councilor asked for an update after seeing news coverage. The police representative confirmed an assault at Cherry Park and said the suspect is in custody and the injured deputy is being treated locally. “I anticipate we can pull recovery,” the presenter said, adding that the department would not provide more investigatory detail in the public forum.
