Summary
Glendale adopted an ordinance amending city code provisions related to parking-citation issuance, failure-to-respond procedures and enforcement to align municipal code with current police and court practices.
An ordinance amending Chapter 24 (motor vehicles and traffic) related to parking citations was adopted by the Glendale City Council on Aug. 26. Deputy City Manager Rick St. John told the council the existing code did not reflect current practice; staff worked with the courts and police department to draft amendments to Sections 24-132 through 24-138 concerning issuance of parking citations, failure to respond, hearings, assessments and collection procedures. The item was discussed at a council workshop on Aug. 12, St. John said. Councilmember Milner moved adoption; Councilmember Diana Guzman seconded. A roll-call vote recorded unanimous ayes and the ordinance will take effect as provided in the ordinance text. City staff did not discuss specific changes to fines or procedures in detail during the voting meeting; the ordinance text in the city code contains the amended language and the workshop materials provide additional background for the changes.
