Grundy County approved a resolution to rehabilitate a 2009 Peterbilt tandem-axle plow truck at a quoted cost of about $57,068, citing rising truck prices and new emissions standards that may affect future purchases.
County maintenance staff reported the 2009 truck has about 105,000 miles and that the county has already invested $12,000–$15,000 in repairs to the vehicle. The plan endorsed by the board will replace the deteriorated steel box, blast and paint the frame and rims, and otherwise restore the vehicle so it can remain as a spare in the nine‑truck fleet that supports eight routes.
Staff obtained quotes from multiple vendors; Monroe Equipment quoted $62,190 and Kankakee Truck quoted $57,068. The county has funds in the equipment line within the five‑year equipment plan to cover the cost, staff said. Board members noted that a new truck previously purchased cost $350,000–$360,000, making the rehabilitation a cost‑effective way to extend the spare truck’s service life.
The board approved the resolution by roll call. County staff said the repair plan will reduce future emissions‑system replacement risk and lower short‑term capital spending compared with purchasing a new truck.
