A committee of the Effingham County Board voted to recommend $1,500 in hotel/motel grant support for Corvette Fun Fest, an event organized by Mid America Motor Works, and will forward that recommendation to the full board for final approval.
The recommendation follows a presentation from Marlon Kester of Mid America Motor Works, who described the two‑day event planned for Sept. 19–20 with road tours, seminars by General Motors engineers, vendors, meals and a concert. Kester said registration through Eventbrite shows 243 registered cars at the time of his presentation and that organizers expect the crowd to grow before the event.
Committee members discussed whether visitors would stay in Effingham hotels, local Airbnbs or properties in the surrounding lake area and the extent to which room stays would meet the fund’s requirements. The organizer said the group typically blocks rooms at the Fairfield Inn and that the Eventbrite registration includes a short questionnaire intended to track whether attendees stay in Effingham.
Committee member Josh moved to recommend $1,500; Chris seconded the motion. The committee voted in favor and carried the motion. The chair said the recommendation will be forwarded to the full board for approval.
Organizers and committee members discussed promoting local Airbnbs and hotels on social media and the county website to encourage visitors to stay in Effingham.
The committee’s vote is a recommendation only; the full county board must approve any disbursement.
