Animal control committee okays credit-card payments, boardroom sound upgrade and other operations changes

The Iroquois County animal control committee recommended that the county apply for a care-credit-type card arrangement that could provide a discount on veterinary care and approved establishing a credit-card payment system to collect animal-control fees.
Animal control administrator Angela Prairie reported July registration deposits of $5,301 and said officers closed 65 cases during the month, including bite reports, animal-complaint investigations and animals found or reclaimed. Prairie also said four dogs, two cats and multiple kittens were currently being housed, and several animals had been transferred to partner shelters or foster homes.
Committee members reviewed recent building upgrades — new steel doors and LED lighting — and discussed an outdated fee schedule. Prairie said she is waiting for insurance quotes from Compass Insurance for boarding and grooming services the county may purchase on behalf of villages and cities.
The committee voted by voice to recommend that county administration pursue the care-credit discount arrangement and to allow credit-card payments for fees. Members directed staff to update the fee schedule to reflect current costs and to circulate the animal-control portion of the county code book for review.
