The sheriff told the committee the department is exploring selling vehicles to resellers and that language in the county's vehicle-disposition process was revised with the state's attorney.
The sheriff requested the committee act on a disposal ordinance intended to clarify how the county sells or trades property and vehicles. Committee members asked whether the ordinance requires formal bidding; the sheriff said options included asking multiple dealers for offers rather than a full bidding process. One committee member asked whether the disposal topic was an audit finding; finance staff said they would check the audit record.
The committee did not approve the ordinance at this meeting. A committee member said, "I would say we take this and act on it next month," and the item was postponed so staff could review language and return with recommendations.
Separately, the sheriff described interest in drone capability for investigations, noting drones now include lights, microphones and night vision. The sheriff said investigators would likely operate the drone, but no procurement action was taken at the meeting.
