Court Services presented several resolutions to the Judicial & Public Safety Committee on Aug. 14 to raise the daily per‑diem rate charged to other counties for juvenile detention placements and to extend the juvenile justice center’s food service contract. The committee approved the per‑diem and contract items by roll call.

The department said the per‑diem increase reflects higher operational and medical costs and that the change will be applied as intergovernmental agreements (IGAs) with partner counties come up for renewal. The packet included approved IGAs with Montgomery, Mason, Shelby and Caroline counties to hold juvenile detainees at Kane County’s juvenile facility; the presenter said the new Montgomery rate would be $225 per day (up from $175).

Court Services also brought a food‑service contract extension piggybacking the adult jail’s contract; the committee approved the contract addendum noting a small rate increase that Court Services said it would absorb without asking for additional county funds. The department emphasized it typically returns unspent funds to the county and that juvenile placement costs have declined as Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act have reduced reliance on county‑funded placements.

The motions passed on roll call; Court Services said the changes will be applied as IGAs are executed. No additional committee action was required beyond the roll‑call approvals.
