Kane County 9-1-1 center to add telecommunicators; training space repurposed

Miss Guthrie, Cancom director for Kane County, told the Judicial and Public Safety Committee on Sept. 11 that the 9-1-1 communications center will hire two full-time telecommunicators later this month and plans to use the director's current office as a classroom training space. "We are hiring 2 full time telecommunicators on the 20 second of this month, in preparation for their training and their classroom experience," Miss Guthrie said, adding that the center will welcome the new staff into the comms center for the classroom portion of training rather than training them off-site. She said another skills testing session is scheduled Sept. 24 and that the hiring process will continue until vacancies are filled. Guthrie also reported outreach and community engagement in August, including participation in several "National Night Out" events to educate the public about 9-1-1 operations and to recruit and inform residents about the communications center's role. The committee received the report as informational; no formal action was requested or taken Sept. 11. The communications office said it is adapting space and scheduling to ensure new hires complete the classroom portion within the 9-1-1 center to accelerate operational readiness.
