Dr. Dudas summarized the items: a $3,300 TechCred credential reimbursement grant to reimburse Cincinnati Police Department employees for technology-focused credentials; a $3 million Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) pedestrian and bicycle grant the city may apply for on a quarterly basis; and three separate Highway Safety Improvement Program applications that could total up to $7.5 million in potential awards (up to $2 million for pedestrian safety improvements, up to $500,000 for traffic safety countermeasures and up to $5 million for projects that reduce serious injury and traffic deaths). The committee moved those grant ordinances forward for passage.
Council Member Mark Jeffries praised the ODOT pedestrian and bicycle grant opportunity: “$3,000,000 goes a long way in pedestrian safety,” he said. The committee also accepted and appropriated a $500 donation from Carol McQuarrie to the Cincinnati Police Department honor guard; Dr. Dudas explained that cash donations still require council acceptance and deposit even when small.
All four grant and donation items were presented for passage by the committee; the meeting record indicates the items will be placed on the council agenda for final action.
