Council approves $500,000 transfer to support Avondale small-business initiative run with LISC and Urban League

Cincinnati City Council approved an emergency ordinance to transfer $500,000 to support neighborhood business assistance tied to Avondale Town Center. Vice Mayor Kearney described a partnership among LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation), the Urban League and the Avondale Development Corporation to help existing businesses expand, recruit new businesses and provide wraparound technical assistance.
The program has three components: business expansion and growth assistance, a new business readiness accelerator, and wraparound technical support for entrepreneurs. Vice Mayor Kearney said the initiative was designed to help current Avondale merchants "grow and thrive" and that the model could be replicated in neighborhoods such as Price Hill.
Councilmember Johnson commended the vice mayor and partner organizations, including the Avondale Redevelopment Corporation and LISC, and said the city should look to replicate the program in other neighborhoods. The ordinance authorizing the transfer passed on roll call with the members present voting yes.
Administration and council members said they hope the program will strengthen neighborhood businesses and support broader economic development efforts that complement housing and infrastructure investments.
