Cincinnati to pursue Clean Ohio grant, accept donation to preserve Mount Adams green space; NatureWorks funds for Glenway Park

The Cincinnati Budget and Finance Committee advanced two park funding items aimed at preserving and improving neighborhood green space: a Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation grant and a NatureWorks grant for Glenway Park.
Doctor Dudas presented the parks packages. On the Mount Adams parcel at Parkside Place and Martin Drive he said the ordinance authorizes acceptance of a $194,990 Ohio Public Works Commission Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Grant for property acquisition, public access and green‑space preservation; the item also accepts a $107,835 donation from the Cincinnati Parks Foundation to meet the required match and fund improvements.
Asked for background, Councilor Morelli asked whether the parcel had previously been owned by Cincinnati Parks and why the city was reacquiring it. Doctor Dudas said he was "not completely clear on the transfer of the property historically." The committee chair summarized his understanding and relayed what he said he had heard from Director Barron: "this plot of land, I believe, is owned by the community council or another community organization. They asked because of tax changes, they asked parks if they would be able to take it on... The neighborhood raised a substantial amount, but not what was agreed upon. And this grant from Ohio Public Works was able to close the gap."
Separately, the committee advanced a $50,082 Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks grant for Glenway Park. Doctor Dudas said the NatureWorks funds would be used for a playground and park amenities and that the grant carries a 25% local match requirement.
The committee put both items on for passage. Committee members thanked Parks staff for improvements at Glenway Park and noted that the combined funding will allow Cincinnati Parks to assume stewardship and carry out improvements at the Mount Adams parcel with local match funding and philanthropic support.
