The item, introduced in committee and brought to the floor by Council member Jeffries, won support from Vice Mayor Kearney and other members who said Santa Maria’s consolidation would strengthen services in Price Hill. Kearmer (Vice Mayor Kearney) noted the project’s architect is D & K Architects (David Kirk), which she identified as a Black‑owned firm.
Council member Grama Dean said he supported Santa Maria’s work but expressed disappointment that the plan, as proposed, would not be more transformative: he criticized the design as a low building surrounded by extensive parking and urged that projects taking city funds seek greater neighborhood transformation.
Council member Nolan said he was moved by community support and would vote in favor. Roll call on the ordinance recorded unanimous support of members present: Vice Mayor Kearney — Yes; Council member Nolan — Yes; Council member Parks — Yes; Council member Walsh — Yes; Council member Albee — Yes; Council member Krammerding — Yes; Council member Jeffries — Yes; Council member Johnson — Yes.
