Cincinnati City Council voted to authorize the city manager to apply for and accept up to $10 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to continue the city's Solar for All work.
Council member Owens introduced the item after Council member Krammerding yielded to her, describing the request as support for Solar for All and acknowledging potential federal funding uncertainty. “$10,000,000 to continue, solar for all, pretty significant,” Council member Owens said, adding that the administration pursued the grant and the council looks forward to implementation.
Council suspended the rules for emergency consideration and approved the application by roll call vote. The council did not outline specific projects or neighborhood allocations during the brief discussion; staff will manage the application and any grants awarded. Council members requested continued oversight as the administration pursues federal funding and noted that federal appropriations and program stability could affect the award.
The authorization allows the administration to apply for the EPA funding; if awarded, the grant would need to be accepted and implemented according to grant terms and city procurement rules.
