Council honors Mill Creek Alliance’s 30-year restoration work with proclamation

City Council adopted a resolution recognizing the Mill Creek Alliance for 30 years of work restoring the Mill Creek watershed and improving water quality and access.
Council member Mark Jeffries presented the proclamation and described the creek’s turnaround since it was once named an endangered waterway. Dave, an executive from the Mill Creek Alliance, noted the ecological changes: “30 years later, it has made an amazing turnaround...Now there are 65 species of fish and we take people on fishing trips on Mill Creek.”
Council members praised the volunteer and public–private partnership that contributed to restoration and community access. Vice Mayor Kearney and others described the stream as an “urban oasis” and highlighted canoeing, kayaking and wildlife returning to the watershed.
The resolution passed by unanimous roll call. Council called attention to upcoming Mill Creek Alliance anniversary activities and noted the alliance’s collaboration with neighborhoods and city departments on future revitalization projects.
