Village to open Munson Springs area after archaeology report; phase‑1 parking and path planned by Aug. 15

The planning staff and consultants reviewed the archaeology study prepared by OABI and concluded the site contains artifacts dating back many thousands of years but not findings that would block creating a parking area and a walking path. Staff said they will provide a fuller written summary in the weekly report and a longer briefing once they finish internal review.
Councilors heard that preliminary work could be completed this year. Staff said a phase‑1 effort would provide parking and a pathway to the top of the hill and that they believe that work can be completed before Aug. 15. That work is intended to allow residents to visit Munson Springs without disturbing archaeological materials. Further phases and any additional mitigation would be proposed after council review and as staff digests the consultant’s final recommendations.
Council members asked whether the path would reach the adjacent Wexford neighborhood; staff replied the initial path will reach the top of the hill but will not create a direct connector to private neighborhoods unless right of way or other arrangements make such a link appropriate.
Staff said they will prepare public information, including a logo and outreach materials, timed with the August work. The village manager asked councilors for questions and said additional details will be provided in upcoming reports.
