Stacy, identified in the meeting as Human Resources staff, said the district had “a need arise for 2 additional paraprofessional positions,” one to support a special education student who recently moved into the district and one because an elementary classroom was approaching a class size of 29 students. She said the district is not adding new full-time equivalents (FTEs immediately) because there are existing openings it can fill first, and that if those openings are filled the administration would return to the board with the cost of adding two FTEs.

The personnel report listed one retirement effective at the end of the school year, a couple of resignations and one termination. Stacy said the board’s report showed roughly eight teacher hires, several paraprofessionals recruited through a recent hiring fair, and coaches being placed for the fall. She also identified “Emeritus,” a staffing agency the district has used, as the source for some teacher hires.

Stacy gave further staffing detail: the board report showed about 2.6 FTEs currently open; the district planned to absorb a 0.6 Spanish FTE through overloads for the fall semester and search for a candidate for the spring semester. For special education the district was covering positions with overloads and hoped to repost in December to recruit a midyear graduate.

Board members asked no substantive follow-up questions beyond expressions of appreciation for the hiring work. A board member moved to approve the personnel report; Carrie Trask seconded the motion. The board approved the personnel report by voice vote; no nays were recorded on the tape of the meeting.
