Larry Rodriguez, president of the Spartan 300 Club, addressed the council during the public comment period and said comments made by a member of the organization’s board “do not reflect the values, belief or principles upon which our organization was founded.”
Rodriguez said the remarks “were made without the endorsement or knowledge of the Spartan 300 Club” and that the organization “deeply regret[s] any confusion that these statements may have caused.” He said the club has begun reviewing internal policies and procedures and emphasized accountability and transparency.
Rodriguez also reaffirmed the club’s commitment to its scholarship and child-in-need programs and said the board is united in maintaining “an environment of respect, empathy and constructive action.” He closed by thanking the community for its support.
The council did not take action on the public comment; the meeting then proceeded to a single agenda item involving the city manager’s employment agreement.
