Apple Valley council accepts $17,000 donation from Community Crime Prevention Association for police wellness equipment

Apple Valley, Minn. — The City Council on Aug. 28 unanimously adopted a resolution accepting a $17,000 donation from the Apple Valley Community Crime Prevention Association to help offset wellness equipment costs in the police operations facility.
City staff and Police Chief Francis told the council the donation will support wellness components installed in the new police operations facility, such as cold plunge and infrared sauna equipment intended for officer mental and physical wellness. Staff described the donation as the result of more than a year of fundraising by a small volunteer group working with businesses and residents.
A representative of the Apple Valley Community Crime Prevention Association told the council the group raised funds through events including a “ROAThon” and a bowling fundraiser; the group said it plans more events and welcomes volunteers. The association presented a check at the meeting.
Council Member Grendel moved approval of the resolution and Council Member Hiebert seconded. Clerk Christina called the roll; all members voted aye: Bergman, Grendel, Hiebert, Melander and Mayor Hoopa.
Chief Francis and city staff said the donation will be used to supplement equipment costs in the facility and thanked the association for its fundraising efforts.
