ZIONSVILLE, Ind. — On Aug. 18 the Zionsville Plan Commission voted 5-1 to table indefinitely two separate proposed zoning-ordinance amendments so the town mayor and legal counsel can continue review. The measures were docketed as 2025-45-OA (accessory dwelling units, agritourism and code enforcement penalties) and 2025-46-OA (solar and wind energy, battery energy storage systems).
The mayor asked the commission to delay hearings to allow additional legal review of the proposed ordinance text. Town staff explained the difference between a continuance to a set hearing date and tabling indefinitely: a continuance schedules a future hearing date; tabling indefinitely removes the item from the calendar until the petitioner requests rescheduling.
Action: A motion to table both ordinances indefinitely passed in a roll-call vote: Brad Johnson, Kendrick Davis, Josh Fedor, David Franz and Andrew Kosick voted aye; Commissioner Jim Hurst voted nay. The motion carried 5-1.
Why it matters: The two amendments cover topics with potential policy and regulatory consequences for housing options, agritourism activities and local energy installations. Tabling preserves time for legal counsel to review drafting and for the mayor to determine whether the town wants the items scheduled for future hearings.
Ending: Commission staff will await direction from the mayor’s office; the items may be re-advertised and placed on a future agenda if the mayor requests the commission to proceed.
