The Garfield Heights City School District Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Reynolds on Aug. 18 reviewed the district’s recent Back to School rally and urged community support for an upcoming renewal issue in November.
The Board President (name not stated in the transcript) opened the president’s report by commending participants at last Saturday’s Back to School rally, saying “hundreds of people attended” and praising principals, administrators and community partners. The president said the event showcased the marching band, flag corps, cheerleaders and athletic teams on the district’s new turf football field and stadium complex.
Superintendent Dr. Reynolds emphasized the district’s priorities for the coming school year — intensified literacy in reading and writing and continued focus on STEM/STEAM — and urged parent involvement, encouraging families to use Parent University and other opportunities. He said the district welcomed nearly 20 new staff members at orientation and thanked those who donated supplies.
On the renewal issue, the Board President said, "it's not an increase in taxes," and asked parents and the community to support the district’s renewal question in November; the board said it would share the issue number by next month's meeting.
Mrs. Daniels and other board members thanked the superintendent and staff for organizing the rally. No formal vote or levy placement occurred at the meeting; the board simply requested community support and said a ballot issue number will be released later.
