A middle school principal reported at a school board meeting that the school implemented an Evolve weapons-detection system that morning and said students "seemed shocked at how easy it was to come into the building." The principal said the system was part of a set of safety and instructional initiatives launched this month.
The principal described the deployment as straightforward and noted it accompanied other classroom- and culture-oriented initiatives such as Capturing Kids' Hearts and a five‑tier scheduling program called "scribe time" intended to meet varied student needs. "We implemented the Evolve weapons detection system today, and our students seemed shocked at how easy it was to to come into the building this morning," the principal said.
School staff also described expanded tutoring, after-school clubs and partnerships with organizations including 4‑H, Stand and GEAR UP. The principal said the new daily structures are a "work in progress" and that staff are making adjustments as the year begins.
No formal board vote on the Evolve system was recorded at the meeting. The principal framed the deployment as a school-level operational decision; the board did not discuss procurement, vendor terms or capital costs during the report.
The principal said the school plans to monitor the system during initial weeks and adjust timing and staffing as needed. Any future budget or contract decisions involving the detection system were not described at the meeting.
