The board approved an MOU with the California School Employees Association (CSEA) on Sept. 4 establishing a stipend for staff who assist students with toileting needs in transitional kindergarten at Robert Down and Forest Grove elementary schools.
The stipend was negotiated to recognize additional responsibilities and to broaden the pool of staff available for toileting assistance. The agreement designates up to three stipend positions per site; the stipend amount is $200 per month per employee. If all positions were filled for the contract year, the district estimated the fiscal impact at $16,530, including statutory benefits.
Human Resources Chief Buck Rogan explained the memorandum defines a hierarchy for assistance (volunteers, health assistant, paraprofessionals) and clarifies responsibility so students receive consistent support. Trustees asked whether the positions are expected to be filled; staff said the agreement broadens the pool but actual hiring will depend on need and site staffing. The motion passed 4‑0.
