Students from Robert Down Elementary School presented a Spanish program demonstration to the board on Sept. 4, including songs, a short skit and brief remarks about the program’s activities. Principal Brownfield introduced the students and teacher Señora Núñez, and trustees presented the students with certificates recognizing the district’s core values.
Señora Núñez said Spanish instruction at Robert Down and Forest Grove Elementary Schools is now offered in second through fifth grades, with students attending one 45‑minute class per week. She described the program as emphasizing cultural exposure — food, music and art — as well as language introduction through kinesthetic learning, games, reading, dance and songs.
Several students offered short comments in Spanish and English about their favorite classroom activities, including Simon Says, reading and trying guacamole. Superintendent Adamson and trustees praised the engagement and asked that the district continue to support the program’s expansion and its role in the district’s “culture of we.” The board presented certificates to the participating students and posed for a photo with them.
No formal action was required; the presentation was part of the board’s information and cultural recognition segment at the start of the meeting.
