Committee reviews bleacher replacement, completed bathrooms and mechanic‑shop abatement

The Facilities Committee received several shorter maintenance updates Wednesday.
Edinburg North High School: Facilities staff reported a bleacher replacement project completed the Friday before school began. Raymond (facilities) said the contractor Specialty Supply and Installation delivered bleachers at a cost of about $191,000; the installation seats a little under 900 and staff completed owner training with coaches and the principal. Committee members asked about adding lighting and a south‑side set of bleachers in the future; staff said lighting will require additional budgeting.
Fixed assets bathroom: Julie Bettis, director of maintenance, told the committee a fixed‑assets bathroom renovation finished Aug. 15 at an approximate cost of $35,000. The work included an ADA ramp, repainted parking and new handicapped spaces, replaced partitions and mirrors, and other fixture updates; Bettis said employees were advised and the facilities are returning to regular use.
Dela Vina Elementary: Bettis also reported a smaller bathroom renovation at Dela Vina that added stalls and made the space ADA compliant; she said the work cost approximately $10,000. The committee discussed reviewing older campuses, and a board member asked staff to review bathroom capacity at Barrientes (an older campus) as part of longer‑range planning.
Mechanic shop: Facilities staff said asbestos testing in the mechanic shop returned positive results; abatement procurement is underway and staff have selected a floor plan for the renovated area. Staff noted the work will include bringing the space up to ADA standards.
No formal committee votes were recorded for these informational items; staff will continue with construction closeout, training and abatement procurement and will update the board as needed.
