Canterbury, Cavazos roof projects on schedule; $200,000 of savings reallocated to high‑school multipurpose storage and apron

Facilities staff and project architect Charles Garcia of CG5 Architect LLC updated the committee on two roof replacement projects. Garcia said the Canterbury roof work is “watertight right now on the roof, and they're about 80% complete,” and that Cavazos Elementary’s roof is roughly 30–35% complete and progressing on schedule.

The architect reported no major change orders and told the committee both projects have substantial completion dates in December; the Canterbury roof contractor had accelerated work and the team expected substantial completion around Dec. 6. Garcia said the two projects together came in approximately $250,000 under budget.

Committee members heard a proposal to reallocate part of the savings: the facilities presenter said the district would use $200,000 of the roof savings to construct a 5‑foot concrete apron around a multipurpose/wrestling room and to add about 1,000 square feet of secure storage for equipment. Staff noted coaches had requested storage because athletic equipment was being exposed to weather and there was limited existing storage on campus.

Board members asked about perimeter details and vertical wall flashings at a covered walkway toward the gym; the architect and facilities staff said they would confirm those details and incorporate any necessary roof‑to‑wall work into the current contracts. The committee did not record a formal vote on the reallocation at the facilities meeting; staff said the adjustment would be managed through project savings and reported to the full board as part of the capital projects accounting.
