Pottawatomie County supervisors approved a request from the veterans affairs administrator to allow outside storage of a 52-inch resin storage box to hold two flag-retirement fire pits and related items.
Peggy Becker, veterans affairs administrator, said she preferred the smaller resin box over a 20-foot trailer and that the items are used for the department’s flag-retirement ceremony; she told the board the fire pits meet criteria reviewed by the fire department for burning because they are covered. “So that that's what that thing that bat the last picture was. Those are fire pits,” Becker said when describing the contents.
The board and facilities staff discussed storage locations and transport. Jason (facilities/maintenance) said the county can store items at the county storage facility on Avenue C (173 Avenue C) and move them to the Veterans Affairs building as needed. Supervisors and staff agreed to coordinate placement so the storage would not interfere with snow removal and building operations. The approved container dimensions given in the record are roughly 52 inches wide and about 43 inches high.
A motion and second were recorded and the board voted “Aye” to approve the storage request. No permit fee or additional conditions were documented in the transcript.
