The Pottawatomie County Board of Supervisors authorized purchase of a silicone‑based penetrating concrete sealant to treat the courthouse campus concrete surfaces before winter. Jason Slack, director of buildings and grounds, presented product research and recommended a brand described in the meeting as an Acron/Aquaron product in bulk totes sized for campus application.
Slack said the product chemically bonds with concrete, penetrates several inches and requires application to a slightly damp surface. He told the board the material is low‑VOC, environmentally friendly and can be sprayed on. Slack said the county has approximately $50,000 budgeted for buildings and grounds from gaming funds and that roughly $6,655.40 remained available to apply toward the purchase; he recommended using the remaining gaming allocation to pay for the sealant.
Supervisors asked about slip risk, curing, power washing, temperature limits and storage. Slack said the manufacturer advised applying when surface temperatures remain at or above 40°F for six hours and that the sales representative would assist at application start. He also said the county would schedule work by lot and aim to complete application before fall temperatures drop below the recommended limit; leftover material would be stored for application to new concrete next year. The board approved the purchase and funding allocation by voice vote.
